| Microsoft dismisses Becta criticism
Much of Becta's concern is focused on Office 2007, as well as the cost to schools and the difficulty of installing Vista. In a report released on Wednesday, Becta recommended that schools should not upgrade to Microsoft's latest operating system, Windows Vista, or its latest productivity suite, Office 2007. The agency argued there are prohibitive cost and interoperability factors which mean that deployment of either product is not currently a practical option. Becta's main concern with Office 2007 is the potential for difficulties to arise when attempting to read documents created in Office 2007 using older and non-Microsoft applications, such as Office 2003 and OpenOffice. Most poorer households are not yet running Office 2007, the agency said, and so deploying it in schools would risk opening up what Becta referred to as a "digital divide", excluding some pupils from reading documents.
Round 10 - France
Ralf Schumacher ended up seventh in the other Toyota with Jacques Villeneuve claiming the final point for Sauber with eighth. David Coulthard just missed out in his Red Bull, finishing 10th. Alonso seized the advantage at the start with a textbook getaway to beat Trulli into the first corner as behind them Barrichello overtook Sato for fourth. Christian Klien's race was over just seconds after it began. The Red Bull driver ran wide on lap one before pulling off the track to retire. Alonso began to pull away at a rapid rate thanks to a series of fastest laps which put clear track between himself and Trulli, who had his hands full defending second place from Schumacher. With overtaking difficult at Magny-Cours, Schumacher had to wait until the first round of pit stops to make his move.
BizBits: sQuba
OK, so the Swiss have invented a car that runs on land and underwater. But did they really have to make it a convertible? It’s called the “sQuba,” and conjures up memories of James Bond’s amphibious Lotus Esprit from “The Spy Who Loved Me.” That fictional vehicle traveled on land and, when chased by bad guys in a helicopter, plunged into the water and became an airtight submarine — complete with “torpedoes” and “depth charges.” But “Q” isn’t responsible for this one. The concept car — which unlike Bond’s is not armed — was developed by Swiss designer Rinspeed Inc. and is set to make a splash at the Geneva Auto Show next month. Company CEO Frank Rinderknecht, a self-professed Bond fan, said he has been waiting 30 years to recreate the car he saw Roger Moore use to drive off of a dock.

Star turn: Brian Fortuna on tour
It's no surprise Brian Fortuna competed in "Dancing with the Stars" and is now on tour with fellow Stars dancers. The tour, featuring Wayne Newton, Joey Lawrence and Marie Osmond, among others, sweeps into Boardwalk Hall on Feb. 2 and the Wachovia Center eight days later. Fortuna was primed for the role since his youth, thanks to his parents, Sandra and Andy Fortuna. The Haddon Heights couple has owned Universal Dance Center in Collingswood for the past 15 years. The center teaches ballroom and Latin dance. "I'm the teacher. My husband got involved with my competitions. He said "I might as well dance, too,' " said Sandra Fortuna, 56, who danced with the Philadelphia Opera Ballet while still in high school, and majored in dance at college.
J-Lo gets ring and a proposal
The football thrill ride for former Kentucky quarterback Jared Lorenzen culminated earlier this month with a Super Bowl ring in the New York Giants' historic upset win over the New England Patriots. Lorenzen, the backup behind Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning, is now back in Kentucky until the end of March and is basking in the glow of his team's accomplishments. "It was insane," Lorenzen said. "The game itself, I don't think it really hit us how big it was at the time. You're just caught up in trying to score more points than them. But you look back on it, and we beat a team that was 18-0, a team that many thought might be the greatest of all time. For us to stop that offense and find a way to win was pretty incredible." Lorenzen has certainly had a star-crossed football career.
