Extremely Cool Lotus Cortina

Ford's 1960s profile-raising competition program included recruiting Lotus boss Colin Chapman to give the new Cortina a sporting makeover. Chapman's brief was to develop a Group 2 competition version; Lotus would then build the 1,000 cars required for homologation.

Launched in 1963, the Lotus Cortina featured the Elan's Ford-based, DOHC, 1.6-liter engine in the two-door bodyshell. Lotus Cortinas dominated saloon racing's 2-liter class, often challenging for outright honors. Works cars were driven by Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Peter Arundell, and Jackie Ickx, while Sir John Whitmore, driving an Alan Mann-entered Lotus Cortina, was European Touring Car champion in 1965.

The Lotus Cortina offered here is one of the original Works racing saloons campaigned during the mid-1960s by legendary Formula One World Champion Jim Clark, while touring car champions Sir John Whitmore and Jack Sears also competed in this same car.

'Burnout Paradise' embraces openness, freedom

Open-world game play is all the rage, and honestly has been for several years, so maybe that concept is getting a bit played out. Still, when one comes along that provides you with a ton to do and no schedule to do it on, it's something to enjoy.

"Burnout Paradise" is the newest of this crash-and-burn car-racing franchise, which wisely reinvents itself with each release. "Burnout" always gives you something new to experience, something that excites gamers and sometimes frustrates longtime fans.

In this edition, you just drive. And drive. And drive some more. Challenges, races, time trials and much more await you everywhere around the city, and you can tackle them in whatever order you want (or not at all). There's a sense of freedom here that allows you to relax, smile and laugh as you blaze through intersections, crashing into anything and everything.

McLean's wife stays on the move, lawyer says

In affidavits filed in Knox County Fourth Circuit Court, Eric McLean and his divorce attorney, Steve Sharp, allege former West High School student teacher Erin McLean is embarked on a rootless existence with a 19-year-old paramour.

"(Erin McLean) has been to California and then to Austin, Texas, staying in cheap motels and then moving when she is unable to pay the bills," Sharp wrote.

Attorney Bruce Poston, who is defending Eric McLean on charges that he killed Sean Powell, his wife's teenage student and lover, in March, said Tuesday Erin McLean has since surfaced in Boulder, Colo.

Sharp has been trying to serve Erin McLean with divorce papers since September to no avail in an effort to gain custody of the couple's sons, ages 11 and 8.

It was then that Erin McLean fled her mother's Nashville home with the boys after news surfaced that she had lied to get a job as a teacher at a private Christian school and allegedly tried to seduce a 17-year-old student.

Shah hoping for Test selection

If nothing else, though, Shah has put himself in the frame for selection in Thursday's three-day match against a Select XI including eight potential members of New Zealand's Test squad when England are expected to field a side close to the one they intend to select for Seddon Park.

"I've known Strauss for a very long time, but the difference this time is that he's been there and played and done well against the best teams in the world," conceded Shah.

"Things are obviously in his favour but I'd like to think I'm also putting pressure on the selectors and have shown what I can do and push for my selection. Runs on the board always count in my view and if I can keep doing that then hopefully I'll get selected.

"It's still early days because we've got another three day game against a good side to come so if I do get chance in that and get some runs then I think I will have put some pressure on the selectors to pick me for the first Test," he added.
